The current round of pots has been a little hurried to complete it before the end of the year. I have three vase forms, three bowls, and two smaller, hand sized vase/gourd-like pieces. I really wanted to try some larger bowls this time. I found making a wide shallow bowl out of one piece of pinch clay a challenge, as the soft clay starts to flop around even while it is still too thick. By drying and using the table to flatten and thin out the bottom I was able to complete two shallow bowls somewhere in the 12-16 inch range. I am thinking of those bowls as fruit bowls. I used a smooth Colorado River rock to burnish out most of the exterior cracks this time as they seemed more distracting in the wider bowl format. We will see if the cracks can be successfully repaired in this way.
The third bowl is rounded made in a series of three or four seasons of Pinching and drying. The round bottom pinched bowl is definitely one of my favorite shapes. I make them upside down and let them dry for most of thr process on the rim, until the final session when I set I down in a hand towel to finish drying. I know I will make many more of these because they are so satisfying to form and to draw and wax on.
