In the process of testing bees wax as a sealer for the pots I realized that I could add color to the wax and that the encaustic process would be great for the barrel fired micaceous clay due to its porosity. I am excited to integrate bright colors and the melted wax texture with the barrel

Now that I have another batch of pots out of the barrel fire I am looking forward to more work on the surfaces. I did a lot of experimentation with waxes and wax based pencils on the last batch which was very satisfying. Walrus wax seemed to be the best overall. It is a wax

After completing 21 collages and framing them I felt a strong desire to get my hands back in clay. I have also been looking forward to firing my barrel kiln so I chose micaceous clay and the pinching process. At this point I have done 5 barrel firings and fired a couple of dozen pieces.
