Mike Kirby invited me to participate in an exhibition with his work and the work of Jeff Forster. I was excited to participate and constructed a new stack for his gallery space as well as several assemblage pieces that incorporate found objects with ceramic thrown and hand built core elements. I installed and delivered my work in August and I am looking forward to seeing how Mike and Jeff finish the show. There will be a reception at the gallery on the 28th of November.
The large stack incorporates small loose fragments within it’s structure. This is an outgrowth of the Stack for Sculpture Month Houston done in the fall of 2024 at the Silos in Sawyer Yards organized by Volker Eisele. The physicality and randomness of the broken parts appeals to me on a more intimate scale, fracturing the image and brining more focus to the physical nature of the work.
I am enjoying the freedom of incorporating found objects with the ceramic pieces created as “core forms” to which the other objects are added either as a base to unify the assemblage or as collections of objects attached or placed inside the vessel.
